About this Presentation...

From the viewpoint of three of the disciplines the panel will discuss the issues to consider on the generational transfer of business opportunities in the closely-held business.  Two case studies will be analyzed and critiqued in detail with the goal of flushing out the issues and offering possible solutions that can be applied in real practice.

About our Panelists...

Dale C. Edmunds

Mr. Edmunds is a Managing Director of U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management. He works with high net worth individuals and their families in the areas of financial/estate/tax planning, investment management, trust services, philanthropic advisory and credit/deposit services. His clients include current and former business owners, corporate executives and multi-generational families. 

Mr. Edmunds received his AB from Dartmouth College and his MS from the Sloan School of Management.  He is a graduate of the American Bankers Association Graduate Trust School and is a CTFA.  Mr. Edmunds serves on the board of the Boston Estate Planning Council and is a trustee of Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center.

William D. Kirchick, Esquire

William D. Kirchick is a partner in the Boston law firm of Bingham McCutchen LLP. For over thirty years, he has practiced in estate, business planning, and probate law. He has extensive experience in the areas of estate planning and taxation, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, probate and trust administration, and probate law, including advanced planning techniques, domicile audits and premarital agreements. His clients include owners of closely held businesses, corporate executives, self-employed professionals and families with inherited wealth.

Attorney Kirchick has lectured on a wide variety of estate and business planning topics for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Inc., the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, the Boston Estate Planning Council and the Federal Tax Institute of New England Inc.  Read more about Attorney Kirchick HERE

Lawrence A. Schwartz, CPA, MST, AEP

Mr. Schwartz is a Managing Director at tonneson + co and has more than 30 years of public accounting experience.  His expertise is in working with high net worth individuals and families, and closely held businesses on sophisticated estate and business succession planning, tax compliance and IRS controversy work including offshore assets or income.

Mr. Schwartz's extensive experience in tax work enables him to assist his clients with their real estate and business transactions to lessen their tax liabilities. He serves as Executor or Trustee to many of his clients, overseeing the administration of complex estates and trusts.
