Please welcome our speaker...

Asa C. Morse, Supervisory Special Agent

US Drug Enforcement Administration

The Opioid Epidemic – From China to the South Shore

US Drug Enforcement Administration - Resident Agent in Charge Asa Morse will discuss the history of the opioid epidemic, its ties to international poly-drug distribution organizations and it’s local impact. Asa will discuss the explosion of opioid use and abuse across the country, and provide an overview of an investigation into the overdose death of young woman on the south shore. The investigation began with a distraught grieving mother walking into the Cape Cod Office of the DEA and ended with the arrest, prosecution and sentencing of 6 defendants being charged with the teen’s death. Asa has spent 20 years in law enforcement including time spent working undercover, investigating and raiding methamphetamine labs, working inner city gangs and most recently oversaw the Task Force responsible for seizing over 71 Kilograms of Fentanyl in a 6 week period in October 2018. As part of that investigation, 5 kilograms of fentanyl were seized, and reported by Time Magazine as enough fentanyl to “kill half the State of Massachusetts”.
