Our topic will be:

Retirement Planning under the Current Tax Law

  • Contributions -- The goal for traditional retirement planning contributions is to take a deduction now on contributions and then take distributions when you are in a lower income tax bracket. Does it make sense for business owners to make tax deductible contributions when they are currently in a 21% tax bracket for C-Corporations or 29.6% top tax bracket for pass through businesses after the 20% Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction? However, does it make sense for the owners of “specified service” pass through businesses to make tax deductible contributions to stay under the QBI limits?
  • Distributions -- Traditional retirement accounts work best if the participants take distributions in lower income tax brackets than they were in when funds were contributed, and when investment markets are up. How should you prepare for the years of retirement when you are in a higher income tax bracket than you were in when tax deductible contributions were made? How should you prepare for the years of retirement when investment markets are down?

Get In, have a great round table discussion, get back on your way!
