Norfolk & Plymouth Estate and Business Planning Council
The Norfolk Plymouth Business and Estate Planning Council will hold their Annual Meeting at no charge for members. After a brief Annual Meeting where we will install our 2020/2021 Officers and Board Members, we will welcome our very special guest speaker:
Donald L. Cabell, United States Magistrate Judge, District of Massachusetts
"Reflections from the Bench: What I learned about Judging as a Lawyer in France"
Judge Donald L. Cabell was appointed to the position of United States Magistrate Judge in January 2015. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with a minor in French, from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his Juris Doctorate degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1991. He also spent a year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris prior to law school. After graduating law school, Judge Cabell spent four years in private practice litigating commercial and white-collar cases, first with Wilmer Hale (then Hale & Dorr), and then with Prince Lobel & Tye (then Peckham Lobel Casey Prince & Tye). In 1995, Judge Cabell joined the United States Department of Justice (“DOJ”) as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Boston U.S. Attorney’s Office. From 1995 to 2012, he prosecuted all types of major felony offenses, focusing during the last several years of that period on terrorism and national security cases. In 2012, Judge Cabell was selected to serve as the DOJ Legal Attaché at the American Embassy in Paris, France. Judge Cabell, who speaks French fluently, worked closely with French officials on criminal cases and policy matters. He rejoined the Boston U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2014 and worked on the team prosecuting the Marathon bombing case until he joined the federal court in 2015.
Judge Cabell enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. He is married to attorney Amy Hudspeth Cabell, whom he met on their first day as students at Northeastern University School of Law. They are the proud parents of three wonderful children, a very clever dog and a cat who ignores them all.
